Opportunities Remain, but Leadership Is Narrowing

US Equities

US equities remain neutral allocation. The economy continues to demonstrate resilience, and corporate earnings have largely met expectations. However, market leadership has become increasingly concentrated among a relatively small number of technology and AI-related companies.

Artificial intelligence remains a powerful long-term investment theme, but valuations in some areas have become demanding.

What this means for investors: US equities remain an important source of long-term growth, but diversification beyond the largest technology companies is essential.

UK and European Equities

The UK continues to offer attractive exposure to global businesses with strong cash-generating capabilities. European markets, meanwhile, have benefited from resilient corporate earnings and improving inflation trends.

Nevertheless, economic growth remains modest and geopolitical risks continue to influence sentiment across the region.

What this means for investors: We continue to favour high-quality businesses with global revenue streams rather than relying solely on domestic economic recoveries.

Asia, Emerging Markets and Japan

Asian markets delivered mixed outcomes in July. Hong Kong benefited from improving sentiment, while concerns about China’s domestic economy continued to weigh on broader regional performance.

Japan, a standout performer for much of the past year, experienced a sharp pullback as investors responded to technology-sector weakness, currency movements and changing monetary policy expectations.

Emerging markets continue to present opportunities, particularly in technology and semiconductor-related industries, although returns have become increasingly concentrated.

What this means for investors: Asia and emerging markets continue to offer long-term growth opportunities, but careful stock and regional selection remain crucial.

Commodities: Our Allocation

Commodities remain an overweight position. The investment case is supported by ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, inflation risks, and constrained supply across several key commodity markets.

The asset class continues to play a key role in portfolio diversification, particularly when both equities and bonds face heightened volatility. Although global demand remains uneven, especially in China, commodities continue to provide a valuable hedge across a range of economic scenarios.

What this means for investors: Commodities remain valuable portfolio diversifiers and inflation hedges, although exposure should be measured and appropriately diversified.
